Art and Design
At Glenmoor we aim to inspire young people to express their ideas and emotions through a range of artistic media as a means of understanding themselves and the visual world they live in. They will have the opportunity for group work as well as working independently so that they are learning adaptability in different creative situations.

Pupils will study the work of relevant artists, craftspeople and designers to support their ideas and they are encouraged to verbalise, as well as write about, their own and other artists’ motivation. Developing Visual Literacy is a vital part of our aims in the Art department. Through methods of observation pupils will collect and study subject matter carefully through recording shape, colour, pattern, as well as textural and tonal qualities. Year 9 pupils will begin a GCSE taster unit, so they gain an understanding of the demands of Key Stage 4 when it comes to choosing their options, thus enabling them to make an informed choice.

Pupils are encouraged to express their own ideas and listen to others’ in an open, positive environment, learning that they will derive as much inspiration and support from each other as well as from us.
